Crossing the Pond

July 6th, 2014

After the last six hectic months of selling our house and cars, packing up our belongings, and saying our goodbyes to friends and family, the day has finally arrived for us to set sail to our new home in London on the transatlantic Queen Mary 2. The weather was gorgeous in New York as we sailed out of the harbor along the Hudson River, under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, and out into the open Atlantic.

After a celebratory glass of champagne out on the deck, we set about exploring the floating palace we would be calling home for the next week. The ship is really quite beautiful! We filled our days being completely unplugged and relaxing over coffee and cocktails, desserts, bingo and puzzles, and watching the dolphins jumping in the wake created by the bow forward of the ship.

After seven days, we awoke early to make our way to the most forward part of the ship to see the British coast as we sailed into Southampton and stepped foot into the UK. And thus begins our new three year adventure of living and traveling in Europe!
