London Happenings: Dinner Date Night at Dinerama

There’s nothing I like more than tasty street food so last weekend Dan and I headed east on the District Line towards Shoreditch for a Saturday night dinner date at London’s newest summer street food mecca, Dinerama. Newly opened in June and running until October 4th, the old derelict bullion truck depot-turned-street feast boasts six street diners, five street food shacks, six bars, and street food trucks. Open four days a week from noon to midnight Thursday- Saturday and noon to 9pm on Sundays its quite the nightlife scene this summer.

The Shoreditch Yard has been split into two levels with rows of picnic benches flanked by the food stalls on the bottom level and the upper mezzanine housing two bars and even more seating. Once we passed through the front gates, Dan and I scoped out the offerings, doing some reconnaissance work in order to narrow down our choices a bit. Beelining for the first food stand you see is such a rookie move!

As we walked our first lap around, we checked out all the menu offerings from such contenders as B.O.B.’s Lobster, Kimchinary, Busan BBQ, Shack Tandoor, Fundi Pizza, Baba G’s, Yum Bun and Smokestak before settling on a 10 hour chipotle beef short rib taco and a buttermilk fried chicken taco from Breddos Taqueria, the duck burger from DucknRoll, and the pork belly bun from Busan BBQ. All were amazingly delicious but the hands down favorite was the fried chicken taco. Who would have thought to roll up fried chicken with a yuzu sauce in a tortilla? A culinary genius, thats who. In fact we were so excited to dig in that I forgot to snap a picture of it first to share with you all. #foodbloggingfail

The bar menus offered just as many options with a definite summer theme dominating the cocktail concotions. Think pina coladas, tiki punch, mai tais, fruity margaritas, and the classic British summertime tipple the Pimms cup. We opted for a refreshingly cool tequila pina colada as an aperitif followed by a Pimms cup for me and a pint for Dan.

Satisfied and full we left Dinerama to walk off our gluttony and end our date night with a twilight stroll along the Thames, the perfect London summer Saturday.

  1. Oh yikes! I’m glad we got to check it out before that happened. Hopefully they will back in business soon. I guess me publishing a blog post to go check it out post-fire isn’t the best timing!

    1. Yes 🙁 it will be several weeks before its up and running again. I saw a picture and it looks pretty bad! I really enjoyed Dalston Street Feast when we went last year. A bit grungier but felt a tad more unique. Luke and I both agreed that the two reminded us of the ruin pubs in Budapest which we LOVED!

      1. Ooh I will have to check that one out Debbie. I was just reading a news article about the fire and the London Fire Brigade tweeted that “No hipsters were injured in the blaze”. Gave me a good chuckle!
