With spring right around the corner and the milder (and dare I say it, blue skied days we’ve had lately) its time to venture back outside and the weekly food market, Urban Food Fest, taking place in Shoreditch’s Euro Car Parks every Saturday is the perfect destination.
Every week, fifteen different street food stalls and trucks pack the parking lot to serve up cuisine from all over the world ranging from Venezuelan arepas to Greek souvlaki to Vietnamese banh mi baguettes. And for the sweet tooth, there’s waffles, crepes, cupcakes, and donuts! Also on hand is a bar stocked with craft beer, cider, wine, champagne, and ‘jam jar’ cocktails.
After taking a spin around the market and comparing and contrasting each stall’s offerings, Dan and I opted for the sweet chili glazed popcorn chicken at Makimayo as an appetizer, a pulled pork burrito from Pink Cactus, and a delicious stilton, pear, and short rib grilled cheese from the unnamed grilled cheese stand. We snagged some beers and settled into one of the many tables set out to tuck into our choices while being serenaded with live music.
Every few weeks, Urban Food Fest dons some fancy dress for theme night with themed street food, cocktails, and decorations. Hint:anyone who shows up dressed along to the theme will win a free cocktail or craft beer! With previous themes such as Oktoberfest, Where’s Wally, 90s Nostalgia, Viva Britannia, ABBA, Superheroes, Alice in Wonderland, and The Beatles, theme night should make for some good people watching.
Entry is free and the event runs every Saturday rain or shine from midday to midnight. No end date for the event is listed on the website but my hope is that it lasts all summer!
