Your London Calendar: Lumiere London 2016

Lumiere London

After four years in Durham, the Lumiere outdoor light festival will be coming to London for its inaugural debut later this week. Lumiere London will showcase a city-wide collection of magical light installations inspiring everyone to see the city in a new light and brightening the cold, winter nights. Seriously, is it just me or did winter finally arrive in the last week?? Starting Thursday January 14th and running until Sunday January 17th, the streets of central London will be transformed every night from 630pm-1030pm.

The event is free and no tickets are required. Rumor has it according to TimeOut London that “mischievous stick men will pose all over the buildings of Regent Street and a magnificent elephant hologram will march over Piccadilly. Trafalgar Square will host Centre point’s iconic neon signage for the weekend, as well as being invaded by a pack of neon dogs. A Mayfair phone box will become a glowing aquarium filled with live fish and a well-lit swimmer will dive into the King’s Cross Pond Club”. For the full program and to download a free map, click here!

Sounds like a perfect way to lift post-holiday winter blues! I leave today for a two week solo trip back home to San Diego to visit family and celebrate my grandpa’s 80th(!) birthday so I will sadly miss the festival this year but I gave Dan strict orders to check it out and take lots of pictures.

If you go, I’d love to know what you thought of it!
